The conference was jointly organized by the Institute of informatics systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk, Akademgorodok) and St-Petersburg State University as part of a conference series commemorating academician Andrey Yershov.
The conference was dedicated to latest trends and achievements in programming including object oriented and multi-core programming, approaches to large data volume processing and parallel computation as well as optimization of large data flows.
Particular attention of the participants was excited by two presentations. One by sir Charles Anthony Hoare (Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK) was entitled ‘The unreasonable power of algebra’. Another one was a presentation by Vadim Kotov (’Silicon valley’ USA) on the subject of ‘Big Data, Big Systems, Big Challenges’. Tony Hoare is the author of ‘Quicksort’ algorithm and he is also known for his extensive work to enhance software reliability. Vadim Kotov designed complex IT systems for Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Silicon Valley and worked for NASA-funded High Dependability Computing Program on several projects involving software applications for outer space exploration.
